Evolution of Query Optimization Methods

چکیده
Query optimization is the most critical phase in query processing. In this paper, we try to describe synthetically the evolution of query optimization methods from uniprocessor relational database systems to data Grid systems through parallel, distributed and data integration systems. We point out a set of parameters to characterize and compare query optimization methods, mainly: (i) size of the search space, (ii) type of method (static or dynamic), (iii) modification types of execution plans (re-optimization or re-scheduling), (iv) level of modification (intra-operator and/or inter-operator), (v) type of event (estimation errors, delay, user preferences), and (vi) nature of decisionmaking (centralized or decentralized control). The major contributions of this paper are: (i) understanding the mechanisms of query optimization methods with respect to the considered environments and their constraints (e.g. parallelism, distribution, heterogeneity, large scale, dynamicity of nodes) (ii) pointing out their main characteristics which allow comparing them, and (iii) the reasons for which proposed methods become very

Relational Databases Query Optimization using Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm
Optimizing the database queries is one of hard research problems. Exhaustive search techniques like dynamic programming is suitable for queries with a few relations, but by increasing the number of relations in query, much use of memory and processing is needed, and the use of these methods is not suitable, so we have to use random and evolutionary methods. The use of evolutionary methods, beca...
متن کاملMULTI-OBJECTIVE OPTIMIZATION OF ARCH DAMS USING DIFFERENTIAL EVOLUTION METHODS
For optimization of real-world arch dams, it is unavoidable to consider two or more conflicting objectives. This paper employs two multi-objective differential evolution algorithms (MoDE) in combination of a parallel working MATLAB-APDL code to obtain a set of Pareto solutions for optimal shape of arch dams. Full dam-reservoir interaction subjected to seismic loading is considered. A benchmark ...
متن کاملFuzzy logic controlled differential evolution to solve economic load dispatch problems
In recent years, soft computing methods have generated a large research interest. The synthesis of the fuzzy logic and the evolutionary algorithms is one of these methods. A particular evolutionary algorithm (EA) is differential evolution (DE). As for any EA, DE algorithm also requires parameters tuning to achieve desirable performance. In this paper tuning the perturbation factor vector of DE ...

متن کاملUsing Type Transformation in Database System Implementation
We propose the use of semi-automatic methods for the translation of abstract database programs into eecient lower level user-deened primitives. We present a type transformation model for use in deening and facilitating the query translation and optimization process. We discuss how this model can be used also as a framework for schema evolution and data restructuring.
